Rocket Crew news: versions 0.60 to 0.69

What each version of the game brought, the newest first.

Version 0.69.0: A smoother take-off

  • The take-off is filmed better, at no cost to the frame rate: the camera and the rocket shudder with the engine instead of jittering, the lens closes in a little as the engine opens up, there is a white flash at zero and an instant of black at each cut, and the rocket leans into a gravity turn and rolls slowly as it climbs, its plume opening out as the air thins.
  • High up, the planet shows below the rocket: its surface curving away to the horizon, with the glow of the edge of the air on it, and it shrinks away shot by shot until it hangs under the rocket as a globe. Winding coasts with pale shallows, lowlands, highlands and snowy tops, and banks of drifting cloud on Earth; rock and craters on the Moon. On test flights too.
  • The Earth of the journey (and of the Earthrise on the Moon) is drawn in far more detail: winding coasts with pale shallows, forests, a belt of deserts, mountains with snow that reaches lower towards the poles, ragged ice caps, relief that shades the mountains, a sea that catches the sun, and banks of cloud with thin veils. The satellite and the space debris no longer cross the climb of a take-off: they stay for the test flights.

Version 0.68.2: A clearer view

  • In first person the arms are gone: only the aiming mark stays in the middle of the view.

Version 0.68.1: Square hands

  • In first person your hands and sleeves are now blocks.

Version 0.68.0: Run and jump

  • In first person you now see your hands, and you can run (Shift or the stick all the way) and jump (space or its button).
  • Your steps sound different on concrete and on grass. On the Moon there is no air: you jump much higher and only feel the thud of your boots.

Version 0.67.0: First person, hands on

  • First person now plays from inside the view: a mark in the middle, whatever you look at shines and says what it is, and one button (E or a tap) opens it over the view.
  • A bar of slots along the bottom takes you to the panels, your team, the collection, the ranking and the activity (keys 1 to 5).

Version 0.66.0: Nothing left unplayed

  • A big “!” floats over the test pad and the control centre while today’s challenge or transmission is still to be played. Touch it to open the building.
  • The cards of those two buildings show it too.

Version 0.65.0: Walk round your base

  • New in Profile › Settings: Game mode. Keep playing from the scene, or try First person and walk round your base through your worker’s eyes.
  • Each day three meteorite fragments are hidden round your base: warm or cold tells you how close you are.

Version 0.64.0: The week among friends

  • In Ranking › Friends there is a new view, “This week”: your points in the daily challenge and the transmission from Monday to Sunday, added up, against your friends’.
  • A chart shows how each total grows day by day. Touch it to see any day.
  • The daily challenge is no longer a button in Ranking: its ranking of the day opens from the challenge itself, on the test pad.

Version 0.63.6: Your language from the start

  • If you open the game from the main page, your account and your emails now start in your browser’s language, and so does the free trial, instead of always in English.

Version 0.63.5: Visits that always arrive

  • Opening another player’s base no longer gets stuck on loading: if the connection drops it tries again by itself and, if it cannot, tells you and lets you retry. Visits between friends no longer get in each other’s way.

Version 0.63.4: Back in the game

  • Whoever reached the “Transmission podium” trophy could not enter the game or open their base: fixed, and the trophy is kept.

Version 0.63.3: The transmission, among friends

  • The podium of the daily transmission no longer gives coins: they come from cracking it (100 or 50). It still counts for the “Transmission podium” trophy.
  • The ranking of the day opens on your friends and team.

Version 0.63.2: Twinkling stars

  • In the observatory, the stars behind the Moon and Mars twinkle softly, each at its own pace.

Version 0.63.1: A more real Mars

  • Mars, in the telescope of the Moon, looks like Mars: soft dark lands, its canyon and volcanoes, polar ice and the haze of its thin air. Its worn craters show up as you zoom in.

Version 0.63.0: Coins for cracking it

  • Crack the daily transmission in the first 3 tries and you win 100 coins at once; in the 4th to the 6th, 50.
  • The control centre no longer needs the service tower, and its card comes right after the fuel in the Base list, on every planet.
  • From the base of the Moon, the telescope of the control module looks at Mars.

Version 0.62.0: Transmission prizes

  • The top 3 of each daily transmission who crack it win 300, 200 and 100 coins, if at least 5 played that day. You are told your place when the day is over.
  • The daily mission takes turns: one day it is the challenge, the next the transmission.
  • Two new trophies: “Steady signal”, for cracking it days in a row, and “Transmission podium”.

Version 0.61.0: The Daily Transmission

  • New in the control centre: every day a word of space arrives ciphered, and you have six tries to work it out. Each letter comes back green if it is in its place, yellow if it is in the word somewhere else, and grey if it is not in it.
  • Fewer tries and less time give more points, and the day has its own ranking, of everybody or of your friends and team. A new word every day, the same for everybody.

Version 0.60.9: A clearer warning in flight

  • While your rocket flies, the note that says its model and colours cannot be changed until it lands is now a yellow warning.

Version 0.60.8: No changes in flight

  • While your rocket is flying to another planet, from take-off until it lands, its model, its variants and its colours cannot be changed. Before take-off you can still change them, and again once it has landed.

Version 0.60.7: Colours for the lunar variants

  • The variants of the L1 and the L2 have their own colours too, so now every variant has them: the foil of Silver, the fabric of Habitat, the hazard stripes of Tanker, the solar panels of Solar… The glow of the helium stays as it is.

Version 0.60.6: Colours for the A2 variants

  • The variants of the A2 have their own colours too: the stripes and checks of Rally, the intakes of Turbo, the team colours of Formula… And the lights of Stealth and Neon can be painted: they keep glowing, in the colour you give them.

Version 0.60.5: Colours for each variant

  • The variants of the A1 have colours of their own: when you paint a part, its zones are named after what they paint in its variant (the dots of Bubble, the checks of Chess, the chrome of Retro…), and every one of those things can be painted.

Version 0.60.4: Try it on first

  • Models and variants are tried on before you put them on: a tap shows it on your rocket, Done keeps it and Undo forgets it. You can try on models you have not found yet too.
  • New in the model selector: put what you are trying on the whole rocket at once.

Version 0.60.3: Every model, six ways

  • The helium hauler L2 has its five variants too, so now every model has them: V2 Tanker, V3 Miner, V4 Reactor, V5 Solar and V6 Crystal, besides V1, the L2 as always. Each one carries the helium its own way, with its cyan glow.

Version 0.60.2: Five more landers

  • The lunar L1 model has its five variants too, all of them landers on legs: V2 Silver, V3 Explorer (with crates and a folded rover), V4 Habitat (inflatable), V5 Hopper (with insect legs) and V6 Polar (with skis), besides V1, the L1 as always.

Version 0.60.1: Variants for the A2 too

  • The sporty A2 model has its five variants too: V2 Rally, V3 Turbo, V4 Stealth, V5 Neon (it shines at night) and V6 Formula, besides V1, the A2 as always. They are picked like those of the A1, in the model selector of each part.

Version 0.60.0: Five new ways to draw the A1

  • The A1 model has variants: the same rocket drawn another way, part by part. V1 is the A1 as always, and V2 Retro, V3 Chess, V4 Workshop, V5 Bubble and V6 Arrow are new. They are all yours from the start and each one grows with the level of its part.
  • The model and its variant are picked in one selector, above the colour: tap it, choose a model and then a variant, and press Done.
